Bible Reading of the day (Jan. 17th)

Gen 35:1-36:43, Matt 12:1-21, Ps 15:1-5, Pr 3:21-26

Matt 12: 3He answered, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5Or haven't you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the day and yet are innocent? 6I tell you that one greater than the temple is here. 7If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent. 8For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

This story is great! It tells us what to focus on, not the temple or laws or traditions, but the Lord Jesus Himself which is also God Himself. It's like in the daily life, we get trained, disciplined, taught on all kinds of stuff, and we follow rules and laws and tradition. But those things themselves are not the reason why we are doing them. We are doing them for a higher reason -- God Himself. That's a whole higher perspective that may we keep in mind when we face daily challenges and routings.

Pr 3:21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight;

22 they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.

23 Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble;

24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

26 for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being snared
.
How awesome is this! We just got a gunshot yesterday near school at 40th and walnut. I was frightened for the moment I read the news. However, this verse is now comforting me and assuring me. Sudden disaster happens, however, with the Lord looking after us, we don't need to be scared. Thank you Lord!
